18th Century Walnut Chest on Stand
£2,750.00
This is a fine early 18th-century walnut chest on stand, dating to the George I period, circa 1720. Crafted in beautifully figured walnut veneers over oak, the piece is divided into two sections: an upper chest with two short and three long graduated drawers, and a lower stand housing an additional deep drawer. All drawers are fitted with brass handles and escutcheons.
The chest is raised on a stand with a well-shaped apron and turned bun feet, giving it a refined and balanced silhouette. The walnut has developed a rich, warm patina over time, showcasing the natural beauty and grain of the wood. The cornice is deeply moulded, adding visual weight and elegance to the piece, while the overall form remains understated and dignified.
This is a classic and desirable example of early Georgian furniture, with strong lines and practical proportions. It would sit comfortably in both period and contemporary interiors and offers ample storage with historical charm.
The piece is in very good antique condition, with minor age-related wear consistent with use. A timeless and handsome example of early 18th-century craftsmanship.
