For sale is a good quality 19th Century Carved Oak Bench. The top of the bench has four detailed carved panels, each with a description below. The carved scenes are as follows (from left to right):
Vicar of Wakefield Adieu to his Son, a Bad Bargain the Vicar of Wakefield, The Rogues Conference at the Inn and Recognition in Poverty.
These panels seem to give reference to thew novel “The Vicar of Wakefield” written by Oliver Goldsmith and published in the 1766. The novel was incredibly popular in the 18th century and throughout the Victorian era.
The bottom of the bench has a further four carved panels, each with different birds and floral patterns. The Bench is in a excellent condition, and is structurally sound.
